Volunteer of the Month

Aditi Sarker

Aditi Sarker volunteers as an English Conversation Group Facilitator. She’s been a valuable member of our Access English Centre team for two years, during which she has accumulated 159 hours of volunteer time, teaching English to newcomers, while studying full time and employed as a Child Care Worker.

Aditi arrived in Canada as an International Student. In Bangladesh she was a teacher, and she came here to pursue a master’s degree in education, majoring in English as a Second Language. She credits her professor Rachael Fecyk-Lamb for suggesting that she volunteer at the Immigrant Centre, and her own experience as an immigrant for motivating her to help. “I know how hard it is. I went through it so why not help other people”

Ever since she started volunteering at the Immigrant Centre, Aditi has not entertained the thought of leaving. “Volunteering is like my passion, that’s why I continue. My help is really making a difference”. In addition to helping other newcomers, the support that she receives from the Immigrant Centre encourages her to continue to volunteer.  “I love the way that you (Walter and Ann) help and recognize volunteers.”

Thank you, Aditi! We appreciate your dedication to helping our clients succeed.
