Volunteer of the Month

Claudia Orellana

Claudia volunteers as a Translator in the Language Bank, where she assists regularly with document translations. She also works full-time at the Immigrant Centre, and her fluency in Spanish has been an asset in assisting Spanish-speaking clients.

Volunteering has been a rewarding experience for Claudia, both personally and professionally. She has found it to be “a great way to learn and to help,” which has contributed to her motivation to volunteer with the Immigrant Centre.

The experience has been satisfying for Claudia, as she is able to help people who have recently arrived in Canada and need assistance. Six years ago, Claudia found herself in a similar situation and remembers the fears and questions she had about her new life in Canada, as many newcomers do.

When she started working with the Immigrant Centre three years ago, Claudia recalls being very excited for this great opportunity. “I love working with people. Giving support and meeting people from different backgrounds. It is very satisfying to be able to help people who have just arrived in Canada and need more help.”

Claudia cannot imagine working anywhere else. “I love all the people who work here. It’s a loving atmosphere. I’m very thankful to the Immigrant Centre and great management for all the support and time they give to all employees.”
