In February 2018, I was excited to start teaching English as a One-on-One Tutor at Immigrant Centre Manitoba. I learned about this great opportunity from a search on the internet.

Prior to Canada, I completed my university education in Ukraine and was certified as an English teacher. I have been teaching English since the age of 20 years old. I taught English in Ukraine, Russia, and Israel. In Canada, I committed myself to keep teaching. I believe that helping people explore a new life, assisting them in learning a new language is the greatest passion and challenge I could ever have.

I remember my first time when I came to the Centre. I was impressed by how friendly and sincere the people I met there were. Ann Mohammed introduced me to other staff and created a very relaxing and encouraging atmosphere. It has been like coming home since then for me.

My students have been so perfect, diligent and in addition, so passionate. Our one-on-one lesson is our collaboration.I am not the only teacher in the class. They are teaching me much too. Both me and my students are flexible in finding the best approach for their fastest progress. And this is the best experience I could ever have while volunteering at the Immigrant Centre.

I have learnt much as a volunteer at the Immigrant Centre. One of the main lessons that I learned there is that assisting people who are integrating their studies with their new life is the best reward a person could ever have.
