Volunteer of the Month

Oliver Dolinsky

Oliver Dolinsky became an Immigrant Centre volunteer in 2010 and has contributed countless hours as a Translator. For the past 6 months however, Oliver has gone above and beyond, working tirelessly to help the Language Bank provide translation services to newcomers fleeing the war in Ukraine.

How did you first hear about the Immigrant Centre (IC)?

Very many years ago (about twenty) I came to the Immigrant Centre (IC) to get my overseas degree papers notarized and was impressed by everyone’s consistent professionalism.

What attracted you to this organization in particular?

It is both my own opinion and what I heard from many clients of the IC and of the similar organizations, consistently through years long, that no one organization countrywide helps newcomers as excellently as IC does.

Why do you volunteer?

The way my parents and grandparents taught me, and I taught my son, and hope he will teach his, is: if you take from some shared resource, don’t forget to replenish it for the others. This is why I volunteer.

What motivates you to stay involved with the IC?

It is a win-win for me to stay involved with the IC: I enjoy contributing, and I benefit from a chance to learn from excellent professionals who work here.

What has your volunteer experience been like at IC?

What we do here at IC is fully professional, not “what you pay is what you get”, even when the service is free of charge, and it matters a lot to me that everyone in the supply chain of our service planning and delivery shares and consistently meets this principle.
