Faezeh Khadem

I am Faezeh Khadem. I graduated in Business Management in Iran, a TESOL course at the University of Winnipeg, and an online course in Human Resources at Red River College. I have worked as a Human Resource Specialist, English teacher, and Interpreter in the recent decade.

How did you first hear about the Immigrant Centre?

When I arrived in Winnipeg about one year ago, I was searching for some opportunities to teach English. I am keen on teaching English, and during my classes, I feel fulfilled with helping people to increase their language skills.

What attracted you to this organization in particular?

I was a newcomer and did not know which way would help me to reach my goals—then started sending emails to some institutions that I supposed needed my skills and knowledge to help people. Finally, I visited dear Ann and Walter, dedicating their time to having a friendly conversation and allowing me to prove myself. During this almost one year, they supported me in every step and encouraged me with their inspiration!

Why do you volunteer?

Part of maintaining a better social life is giving back to people some valuable things. Being involved in the community in which you live can help you connect not only to new people but to yourself. Help yourself to feel how it will be amazing when you see with your help; another one will feel better.

What motivates you to stay involved with the IC?

During my classes, I say to English learners: “Everything starts in our mind! With a positive approach, we can be the best!” So, they try to improve their skills as a result. This one is incredibly delightful for me.

What has your volunteer experience been like at IC?

My experience as a volunteer at the Immigrant Centre was terrific. I was so honored to get the opportunity to work as a volunteer. It was a wonderful learning experience for me, as well. Thank you to Mr. Walter Luzzi and Ms. Ann Mohammed for allowing me to participate in this particular group.
