Volunteer of the Month

Galyna Kosova

I came from Ukraine under the protection program. I first heard about the Immigrant Centre from volunteers who received Ukrainian citizens. Having visited the Immigrant Centre several times as a visitor, I felt a caring atmosphere and a desire to help. I believe in the dignity of all people and have a caring, positive attitude.

I wanted to become a volunteer because this experience opened the way for me to understand the society in Winnipeg and gave me the opportunity to make acquaintances and make new friends. I began to feel more confident and take pride in helping people.

The team in which I now work surrounded me with care and I am happy to be among these wonderful people. I have previous experience working with people with disabilities and have supported the diabetes community for several years.

I have been living in Winnipeg since September 2022. I have a diploma of an artist-designer and a candidate of technical sciences. I also teach math to kids at a part-time school. I am an active person and I want to communicate, make friends and be useful to the community of the city, which has become my home and in which I was so warmly received.

Galyna volunteers in our Language Services Department and was nominated by Language Bank Manager, Rosa Menjivar. Thank you Galyna!

Here are two pieces of Galyna’s artwork that she shared with us.
