Sandra Liliana Perdomo Rico

I am Sandra Liliana Perdomo Rico. I am a Technician in Advertising Graphic Communication and a professional Graphic Designer, and I am currently pursuing a Diploma in Marketing Management at the University of Winnipeg.

I arrived in the city in December 2022 along with my husband and my dog. Like many of the newcomers, we didn’t know much about the city and what you can find here. One day while making inquiries about how to process my husband’s driver’s license and the papers he needed for the process, one of the assistants at the MPI told us that we could do the required translation at a place called Immigrant Centre. We were without any knowledge of the place. We went to see it and we were greatly surprised, because it is not only a place to make documents, but it is a place where you find all the information and help necessary to begin this new adventure of migrating to an unknown place.

From that day on I began to follow the IC on social networks and in mid-April 2023, while looking at the IC’s publications, I saw that they required volunteers for the marketing team, and I said to myself “and why not…”? Why not use the opportunity to contribute to others just as we received help at the time. Why not take the opportunity to use my professional talent in this new environment. Why not learn what the process is like behind the services that the IC provides to the community.

Now, at the IC, they have given me the opportunity to participate in English classes that are taught at different times, and I am happy because my speaking has improved a lot.

And here I am, contributing new ideas and helping with a grain of sand to improve the image of the Immigrant Centre, and I have found people who give you their hand without expecting anything in return. These people have shown me that with faith, patience, and discipline everything in our lives can improve.

It only remains for me to say, thank you for opening the doors to me IC.
