EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH APRIL 2024

HAMDA AHMED, EMPLOYMENT SERVICES FACILITATOR

In the bustling city of Hargeisa, Somaliland, Northern Somalia, our Hamda Ahmed spent her formative years. Born and raised in this vibrant community in the north of Somalia, she immersed herself in education and work, carving a path that would eventually lead her far from home.

Hamda’s journey began at the university, where she pursued her Bachelor’s in Public Administration (BPA). But her determination did not stop there. While diligently attending classes, she also dedicated herself to full-time employment, a testament to her unwavering resolve and work ethic.

One pivotal moment in her career came when she spearheaded a project known as the Social Protection Policy in Somaliland, collaborating with esteemed organizations such as UNICEF, the World Bank, and various ministries. Through this initiative, Hamda found herself traversing the continents of Africa and Asia, broadening her horizons and deepening her understanding of global issues.

However, destiny had other plans for Hamda. In 2017, she made the life-changing decision to relocate to Canada, seeking new opportunities and experiences in a foreign land. Upon arrival, she wasted no time in charting her course in this unfamiliar territory.

With a keen eye for opportunities to contribute to society, Hamda identified settlement organizations as a crucial avenue for her skills and expertise. Venturing into the Immigrant Centre, she initially sought out volunteer opportunities, eager to lend a helping hand to newcomers in her newfound home.

To her delight, fate intervened once again when she stumbled upon an open position as an Employment Facilitator at the Immigrant Centre. Intrigued by the prospect and emboldened by her fluency in Somali, she wasted no time in submitting her application.

To her astonishment, the job offer came swiftly, a testament to her qualifications and suitability for the role. Since joining the Immigrant Centre in late 2019, Hamda has found a sense of purpose and fulfillment, relishing the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

Driven by her innate desire to think outside the box and contribute innovative ideas, Hamda thrives in the supportive environment fostered by the Immigrant Centre. Here, she finds solace in aligning her values with her career aspirations, embodying the notion that one’s true calling knows no bounds, transcending geographical borders and cultural divides.

So proud to have you as part of our team, Hamda.
