EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH DECEMBER -LORENA ELDER

Our settlement facilitator, Lorena Elder, is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico. She is yet another contribution to our Centre as she brings a wealth of experience to the IC. She attended UNIVA, obtaining a bachelor’s in business administration and later a Masters in Marketing and Neurolinguistics. She also pursued a certificate in Advanced Sales and Customer Service.

Her unique curriculum includes working as a customer consultant for Hewlett-Packard for Governmental Accounts. She also worked at Avantel and Telmex in the past, and one of the most rewarding experiences for Lorena was working at Cisco Systems in the Enterprise account section.

However, the things that bring her the most joy are her children, grandchildren, her beloved father, and husband. She told us she has six grandchildren and two great-grandkids and that her father is an artist who still paints at age ninety-three!

In 2012 she met a Canadian and fell in love with him. She moved to Manitoba and decided to stay. She came to the Immigrant Centre for assistance and found what she describes as fantastic help and support. The IC helped her get her PR; today, Lorena is a Canadian citizen. In 2016 she got married and returned to the IC for workshops, English classes, and eventually to work. She began in 2021 as a part-time worker, and today she is a full-time settlement facilitator.

What she enjoys the most about her job is the learning she gets from her clients. She appreciates their culture, encourages overcoming challenges, and celebrates their achievements. She tells us that she feels privileged to be there for her clients, providing empathy and promoting their success. It is nice to have you onboard, Lorena.
