How did the Immigrant Centre help you to find a job in Canada?
I got the job through a different employment agency. I am hoping to use the resources from immigrant center in the future to find work in my area of interest.
What types of job search techniques did you use to find your job?
Went to job fairs, spoke to everyone that I knew, emailed random potential employers, went to British Columbia hoping it will be easier to find job there and used new comer services from two agencies in Winnipeg. The last one worked!
What differences have you noticed between working in Canada and working in your home country?
Positive - really good labour law regarding fixed minimum wage and hours of work compared to my experience in India
Negative - Personally I am finding it difficult to find employment in my area of education
What advice would you give to immigrants and newcomers looking for work?
Please find a community of good hearted people. You might have to lower your expectations, redo your education, unlearn your habits and start from scratch. But on the bright side you will get to see your resilience and personal and professional growth which will make you the best in understanding others struggles and to give back to this and your society from back home. Therefore having a community of people in which ever job you do will only make this journey easy and lively.
